Opposite Scan Abutment: Precision Scanning with Enhanced Patient Comfort

By Alex Lee November 11th, 2025 193 views

The opposite scan abutment is an extraoral scanning abutment tailored for permanent restoration. Its core benefit lies in improving patient comfort during dental treatment.
When the patient’s intraoral occlusal relationship is accurate and the restoration achieves passive fit, it shifts traditionally intraoral scanning procedures to extraoral operations.
This enables precise capture of implant position data while eliminating discomfort from prolonged mouth opening during intraoral impression taking, keeping patients more
relaxed throughout treatment.

Core Structural Design

Upper section: Scanning area, the key recognizable part for data acquisition.

Lower section: Interface end, engineered to connect the multi-unit ti-base of the provisional restoration and secured firmly with a bridge screw.

Working Principle

In application, after attaching and tightening the opposite scan abutment to the provisional restoration, both the abutment and the entire provisional tooth are scanned concurrently.
Scanned data is matched and aligned using professional dental software, enabling simultaneous acquisition of the exact position of intraoral implants and the correct occlusal relationship
